Default SOA vs CAS

Now that SOA is changing things up with their exams and CAS won't be accrediting these new exams, does that mean we have to choose which track to go into earlier?

I only have P and FM and am leaning towards CAS but still not sure. Since CAS won't be recognizing the altered SOA exams, should I worry about making a choice now?

I also need help choosing which track to go into. I heard CAS is more interesting but in what aspects? Are the exams materials more interesting? I tend to like more stats and math courses than life contingencies courses at school if that makes any difference.

In the FAQ on curriculum changes the SOA says the following
Quote:
Q6: I plan on applying my exams toward earning a designation from the CIA or CAS. How will this work with the revised exams?

A6: The SOA has kept both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) informed regarding the changes. Any announcements regarding the effect of the SOA’s exam changes will come directly from those organizations as they are independent from the SOA and set their own rules for membership.
It would appear from this document (* at the bottom and attached to relevant exams above) that 3 of the “new” SOA preliminaries will continue to be accepted by the CAS as equivalents to their CAS counterparts:
1. Probability Exam
2. Financial Mathematics Exam
3. Investment and Financial Markets Exam
4. Short-Term Actuarial Mathematics and VEE Mathematical Statistics EDIT: credit will not be given for MAS-II for this one.

Does anyone else know of a more concrete CAS announcement about this?

This page has the waiver rules for both before and after 7/1/2018.

Ah so it appears that Short-Term Actuarial Mathematics and VEE Mathematical Statistics will not be accepted for MAS-II credit by the CAS after 7/1/2018 based on that document. Thanks.
