Join an actuarial team directly supporting the actuarial functions in the West. Lines of business include individual, small group, and large group. Working on a health plan actuarial team will provide exposure to many diverse areas of health plan operations including reserving, product development, pricing, medical management, underwriting, and sales.

This role provides opportunity to:
- Support actuarial functions by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods.
- Take full ownership of assigned projects and potentially act as project team lead.
- Leverage more advanced technical skills to achieve business solutions and demonstrate solid understanding of business and product processes.

Fundamental Components: Join an actuarial team directly supporting Aetna's Local & Regional Business in California.
- Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to risk and trend analysis.
- Conducts quantitative assessments of risk relating to market premium rate levels, new product development, provider contracts, and IBNR in accordance with regulatory and professional guidelines.
- Develop state and federal filings in accordance with the regulatory environment of the market and the actuarial standards of practice
- Planning & Forecasting
- Provide technical support and analysis for planning, forecasting and reporting process.
- Pricing, Trend & Benefit Design
- Develop and recommend pricing and trend for product and/or services.
- Manage projects and initiatives.
- Represent the actuarial team in multifunctional workgroups.
- Assist in training and development of other members of the actuarial department.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:
- Bachelors degree in actuarial science, mathematics, business finance/economics, or related.
- Near or recent ASA; minimum 3 Actuarial Exams passed desired.
- 3+ years experience in actuarial field, preferably with health care.
- Proficiency with Excel and Access. Experience with SQL and/or SAS is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
