Depends on many factors. In my experiences talking and interviewing with others, the major difference is in the job structure. Some companies have 4-6 job levels for their actuaries before the managerial role. Some only have 2, mostly consulting companies.

As someone that qualified a very long time ago (circa 1990) the raise/bonus structure I cam e thru was a little different.

we got a $750 bonus for each exam thru Associateship and a $1,500 bonus for each Fellowship level exam. We also got an identical raise but, when annual reviews came around increases were supposed to be based on the higher salary with no claim that "since you already got a raise .."

One of the few times I've ever lost it in a salary review was when my then manager tried to pull a "but your salary has increased by XXX" - that was the first time I actually walked out of a performance review telling my manager "that was ****ing insulting and please be sure those words are in my file". About an hour later his boss called me. As far as I know, those words are still there.

Very nice . But lol at the FM amounts being more than twice what you get for MFE. If I ever move up enough in the ranks, my first decision will be to abolish that "half-exam" bullshit.
