Default ING Savings Account

http://home.ingdirect.com/

Anyone have one of these? Seems too good to be true. 2.60% Annual Percentage on a FDIC insured savings account. What's the catch?

I have one. No catch, as far as I know. They don't have any B&M banks, so their expenses are low. The result is a higher interest rate.

One of the neat things I like is that you can open multiple accounts with them and move money between them easily. It's helpful for me bc I can earmark money for different things. Christmas, Vacation, Binge Drinking, etc.

If you plan on opening an account and want a free $25, I'd be happy to refer you. (You get $25, I get $10)

Default A higher APR...

You can get a 3.0% APR with www.Emigrant-Direct.com. Having said that, I have an account with ING Direct, though, and have been very happy with it.

Same here.
Although mine's in the Canadian localized version of ING, rather than the USAn localized version, for what it's worth.

Everbank's CD rates are around 10 bps higher than those of ING Direct's, although the Everbank money mkt rate of 2.26% is less than the ING Savings Acct rate...Everbank also offers accounts in currencies other than the USD, so you have the potential for capital gains if the dollar continues to depreciate against other currencies (and of course capital losses if the USD shifts course and appreciates against other currencies)

You can actually open one with $1 and get the extra $25 if you are referred, although you have to wait a month or so to have access to the $25. Other than that, they are totally legit and I have been very pleased.
